The lounge is in a part of the jail reserved for the best behaved, housing up to 17 at a time in individual rooms along with this common space. Many did grave offences involving violence and drugs but may feel more rewarded than punished in the cosy room. The “association room” is at HMP Cookham Wood in Rochester, home to around 190 male offenders aged 15 to 18. ![]() There are six guitars – electric and acoustic – and a trendy triangle-patterned wall. I still have (somewhere) an early seventies DeArmond single coil "jazz"-type pickup that might sound great on that Kent.Far from doing "hard time", young inmates locked up in one Kent jail can lie on sofas and watch DVDs on widescreen TVs. I wish I still had it, if only just to hang on the wall. (Thanks Big Ben!) I ended up trading that Kent in at Texas Piano and Organ for a Fender hard case (for the LP Jr) several harmonicas, and a couple cables and picks. Then I found my 1960 Les Paul Jr (in about '69) in a pawn shop for $60. Back then (65-66-ish, in Jr High) we didn't know anything about "fixing" things on guitars.like changing pickups or bridges, but I played it for a while. I could use the bridge p/up, or the neck+bridge, but the neck alone, even at low volume, just howled with feedback. It had two "gold foil"-ish pickups, and they were DOGS!!!!!!(and not in a good way) Did NOT have an adjustable bridge, so it never really played in tune. ![]() I bought it brand new, for about $120, and the Gibson plush soft-shell case (not a gig bag) was $60.half the price of the guitar. It had asymmetrical double cutaways and six in line tuners, but it was the closest I could afford to an ES 335, my dream guitar. My second electric was a Kent thin-line "f-hole" model.I think it was an "Americana" model. Click to expand. My "first" electric guitar was an acoustic flat-top with a sound hole pickup.a REAL dog. ![]()
